SK2168 BUXTON ROAD
831-1/4/60 (North East side)
20/05/74 Mill Cottage and Ford Cottage

GV II

Pair of houses. Early C19. Deeply-coursed, dressed sandstone;
Welsh slate roof.
EXTERIOR: handed 2-storey pair; 2-window range. Doorways are
spaced from the centre and have vertically-panelled doors in
ashlar surrounds. Windows beyond are 8/8 horizontally-sliding
sashes with projecting stone sills and plain ashlar surrounds.
First-floor windows of same type have flush sills and are set
directly beneath eaves. Corniced ashlar end stack on left.
Left return: angled rear-left corner. Ashlar addition with
miniature 6/6 sash to first floor.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
HISTORY: the road here was realigned c1810 and since these
houses face the newly straightened section of Buxton Road they
probably date from soon after.
