House. 1784 Ashlar, slate roof. 3 storeys 5 bays. Ground floor has c1840s extension
of banded rustication which includes entrance porch flanked by Tuscan pilasters and
cornice in style of George Webster of Kendal. Porch is now filled in with c1960s
weatherboarding. C20 door. Three large windows to left and right. 5 windows on
upper floors have plain projecting surrounds. All windows have sashes without glazing
bars. Chamfered quoins. Frieze with rosettes and vertical grooves. Eaves cornice.
Gable ends have shaped kneelers coping and ridge stacks. Recessed projecting wing
to left and right of 2 storeys and 1 bay with one window on each floor in same style
as upper floor window of main block. Right hand bay also has C20 entrance and door
to right. Modillioned eaves and hipped roof. Built for Clayton family who managed
Langcliffe Hill Mill (qv).
