Remains of a house, now outbuilding. C16 probably for the Radcliffe family,
rebuilt probably mid- late C19. Gritstone, graduated stone slate roof. A
square, single-storey building with entrance on the gabled north-east side.
Quoins. Entrance front: board door left, in deeply-chamfered quoined
surround with shallow Tudor arch. Window to right of 4 (left light
blocked) plus 3 round-headed lights with cavetto moulded mullions and
deeply cut spandrels. Similar window to right return, of 4 lights, a 2-
light window of reused masonry to left return. Short stone stack to rear
gable. Interior: cast-iron range in plain stone surround to fireplace on
left of rear wall. No internal partitions. The roof supported by a C19
king post truss using cast-iron bolts. Meat hooks fastened to the cross-
beam. The masonry of the north-east (entrance) and north-west walls,
(those with the early windows) is better dressed and coursed than the
south-east, suggesting that they are the surviving walls of the home of the
Radcliffes. Rafe Radcliffe, son of Anthony, was chosen High Constable of
the Wapentake of Staincliffe in 1595/6 and was 'of Threshfield Hall" in
1607. A. Raistrick, Old Yorkshire Dales, 1967, p91. T.D. Whitaker,
History of Craven, 1805, p556.
