House, originally mill owner's. Early-mid C19 with later alterations. Pebble-
dashed with ashlar dressings, roof of graduated Lakeland slate. 2 storeys, 5
symmetrical bays, central bay recessed. Stone plinth. Central doorway set in
segmental-arched recess has c.1980 door, the upper portion with small-pane
glazing, and ashlar architrave with panelled pilasters, frieze, cornice and
blocking corse. Tall ground-floor windows rising from plinth have
unequally-hung 15m pane sashes, the surrounds similar to doorway but slightly
plainer. 1st-floor windows on sill band have sashes with glazing bars, the
central window in architrave as below but with panelled frieze, other windows in
plain stone surrounds. Eaves band with paired gutter brackets. Roof hipped
with end stacks and one across ridge to centre. Left return: leaves treatment
returned; inserted French window and 1st-floor window. Rear and right returns
less well detailed having thinner members to stone surrounds (which have
tiestones) and plain gutter brackets to eaves; rear has three 2-pane sashes to
ground floor and two tall 8-pane sashes above. Interior: doors of 6 raised and
fielded panels; acanthus-type cornice to ground-floor right-hand room and
trailing foliage to ceiling frieze. Open-well stair has open string square-
section stick balusters and curtail to handrail; decorative light rose to
landing and panelled reveals to landing windows which are supported by consoles;
right- hand to floor room has Lions' heads in top corners of the original door
and wall recess architraves.
