GARGRAVE CHURCH STREET
SD 93 54 (west side)
6/66 Nos 16 and 18 with
attached barn (formerly
6.10.69 listed as Ford House)
GV II
Farmhouse, now house, and attached barn, perhaps late C17 or early C18, restored
from dereliction mid C20. rubble with stone slate roof. Two storeys. The
house is L-shaped with a wing coming forward to the street. Large quoins,
string between the storeys, gutter brackets, gable coping and kneelers. The
section set back has to the ground floor a 3-light wooden mullion casement
window in a chamfered surround, and a chamfered doorway. The first floor has a
large modern 2-light stone mullion window in an old surround, a sash with
glazing bars, and an entirely modern window. The wing also has a chamfered
doorway and to its left is a chamfered window with a broad sash window with
glazing bars. Over it is a 2-light sash window also in an old recess. The rear
has one double-chamfered stone mullion window, lacking the original mullions.
To the first floor a small chamfered cupboard window. The stable has now been
taken into the house but the barn and shippon remain as built, separated by a
cross wall and entered by separate chamfered doorways.
