Peat Ghyll Head Farm
(Formerly listed as Peat Gill Head Farmhouse)
II
Farmhouse, 1680 (datestone). Coursed rubble and stone slate roof. Two storeys and two windows, all unmoulded stone surrounds with modern casements. To left of these is an enclosed stone porch with chamfered triangular headed doorway. This has massive jambs and a finely decorated lintel of the embattled type with "RMW 1680" interspersed with stars and fleurs-de-lys. Swords are carved in the spandrels. The porch may have been rebuilt as it covers an opening in the front facade with its return wall. At rear is a small two-light chamfered stone mullion window. Two chimneys, one over a massive, but now enclosed chimneybreast inside, opposite the inner doorway.
