8/29 Manor Farmhouse
GV II

Farmhouse, now detached house. Late C17 and early C18. Good
dressed limestone, tiled roof, 3 pairs of gauged brick spiral
stacks, coped verges. Two-storey, 5-window. 1930s planked door in
beaded stone architrave to right of centre, two 2-light recessed
chamfered mullioned casements to right, 4-light and 3-light
mullioned casements to left. First floor has two 3-light mullioned
casements to left, three 2-light to right; the three right hand
bays dated 1716 on stone tablet over door with name William Oborne
and scrolled decoration. Left return has 2-light casements. Rear
has 2-light mullioned casements and glazed door to C18 build, 1930s
and 1960s wing to right with steel casements.
Interior largely remodelled during 1930s, C17 stairs with turned
balusters and square newels reset against rear wall, planked door
with strap hinges to cellar below C18 range. Bedroom at north end
has R°E 1697 scratched on a window mullion. Formerly a farm on
Clouds Estate, the twisted brick stacks are a feature of several
estate cottages in the parish.
