Aldford Lodge Gates, Piers and Wing Walls

Gates, gate piers and wing walls, circa 1877, for the 1st Duke of
Westminster, probably by Alfred Waterhouse. Wrought iron gates and
piers with red sandstone wing walls. Pair of carriage gates: Lock
rails with scrollwork and initial 'W'; ornate dogbars; the central
panel, side panel and cresting of each gate are of closely spaced
scrollwork. Square, open piers decorated with foliated scrollwork,
each carrying a tapered square lantern, originally oil lit. Wing
walls of squared rubble stonework with steep, twice weathered copings.
