II
Lodge, 1894, by Douglas & Fordham. Asymmetrical Jacobethan lodge
cottage with coursed ashlar yellow sandstone lower storey and diapered
red brick upper storey. Green Westmorland slate gabled roof. 2
shaped brick chimneys, one with recessed vertical bands, the other
with clustered moulded circular flue stacks. Shallow recessed central
porch with basket arch under corbelled timber-framed gable with
heavily carved bargeboards and tie beam. Corbelled oak-framed end
gable, left, with richly carved bargeboards and tie beam. Octagonal
turret at corner, right, with squat spire surmounted by weathervane on
shaped lead finial. Ornate mullioned windows, stone to lower and oak
to upper storey. Grosvenor Arms, carved in stone, above porch.
