Description

The following building shall be added to the list:-

ST 66 NW WHITCHURCH BRISTOL ROAD
YEW TREE COTTAGE No. 95
2/221 No.95

II

House. Probably C17. Limestone rubble with rendered rear and end walls. Bridgewater
pantile roof with gabled ends. Gable end stacks with brick shafts and white clay
louvred pots; the left end stack is much larger.
Plan:- Appears to be a 2-room plan with a central entrance, both rooms heated from
gable end stacks, the large left end stack probably serves the kitchen at this
end. There seems to have been an adjoining building at the left end, which has
been demolished.
Exterior:- 2 storeys. Symmetrical 3-window front. C19 or C20 3-light casements,
centre first floor 2-lights. Central doorway with plank door with cover-moulds
and single wooden canopy. Rear elevation has 2 similar 2-light casements on first
floor and small window at ground floor at centre. The masonry at the left hand
gable end wall has broken away around the stack and it is possible that the house
has been truncated at this end.
Interior:- Only partly inspected. The left hand room has a chamfered cross-beam
with stops; winder staircase at the centre, first floor not inspected.
