Ornamental Lily Pond and 2 Pedestals. Circa 1890 by F. Inigo Thomas. Rubble
stone to pond walls below water level, ashlar coping. Ashlar pedestals and Urns.
Ironwork railings enclosing pond. On plan the pond is circular with rectangular
projections on east and west sides. It is enclosed by tall yew hedges but on
axis with the 2 Pedestals which are central to 2 symmetrical parterres of rose
beds. Each Pedestal is identical with 2 octagonal base steps, a circular shaft
and an ornate Urn with floral swags and mermaid handles. These features together
with several others comprise a fine formal garden layout designed by Thomas for
Henry Martin Gibbs; it is included in tne Historic Gardens Register : Part 1 Avon.
