Disused former factory. 1818-23. Random rubble, pantiles with stone slates at
eaves, end stacks, that to north with cornice. 3 storeys, 7 windows, small
single lights with wooden lintels to first and second floors, at ground floor is a
central segmental headed door flanked by 2 similar windows with one plain light
beyond. Identical at rear except at ground floor with various later openings.
Plain end elevation has large square opening under relieving arch on ground floor.
Built for Christies the hatters as a result of labour troubles in London and
Stockport, this is an important early and now almost unique survival of a non-
woollen mill in rural setting in this area. It represents the survival of the
Industrial Revolution in Frampton Cotterell which had since the early C17 been a
centre of felt hatting due to its position to the west (damp side) of the
