Farmhouse. Late C17 with early C19 and later alterations and additions. Red
brick with stone dressings, rubble plinth with angled brick top, hipped slate
roof with some stone slates at eaves, concrete tiles to south west block, double
Roman tiled extension, brick stacks. Originally L-plan, infilled early C19 by
kitchen block. 2½ storeys and 5 windows, all 2-light casements of 8 panes each,
under eaves at 1st floor, ground floor has outer windows of 3 panes each with
margin glazing, inner casements as above, each with cambered brick head and
relieving arch, position of windows to left altered, relieving arch remains over
blocked window; central steep gabled porch with raised coped verges and kneelets
has round headed arch springing from impost blocks, inner benches and blocked side
lights, 4-panelled door with plain fanlight; 2 dormers with segmental heads, each
with 2-light casement of 6 panes each; banc course of 3 courses of bricks, wooden
eaves cornice on wrought iron brackets, projecting eaves. Left return has 5
windows, 4 relieving arches remaining at ground floor, only 2 casements remaining,
2nd from left and 2nd from right, central small window of panes; 1st floor has all
windows blocked except 2nd front left and 2nd from right. Right return has cellar
window with relieving arch, ground floor has blocked window and C20 16-pane window
under relieving arch, 1st floor has blocked widow and casement as on front;
straight joint to later kitchen block in similar style with larger bricks, two
2-light casements at 1st floor, one at ground floor, and with 3 panes each light
and relieving arch, plank door, single storey C20 extension. Rear has original
block to right with ground and 1st floor windows and dormer as on front, brickwork
rising through eaves to cill of dormer; kitchen block to left has double hipped
roof and 2 windows, all 2-light casements with segmental head and keystone, C20
door to right with round head, keystone and fanlight, rubble plinth continued around
later block; extension to left has 2 windows, both C20, coping to wall. Interior:
entrance hall has early C19 stair, open-string with turned balusters and mahogany
newels; ground floor room in rear wing has wide fireplace with deep chamfered lintel,
skin of a cat and 2 kittens immured in rear of fireplace; kitchen, formerly rear
courtyard, has well. 5-bay roof at front has tie-beam under floor, 2 rows of
purlins, collar, some purlins chamfered, but through to accommodate dormers.
3-bay roof to rear wing has similar construction with hollow-chamfered upper purlins
and chamfered lower purlins.
