Halfway House
II
Cottage, formerly a public house. Probably built after 1823 and before
1844. Timber framed, roughcast rendered and long straw thatch with ridge and
end stack. Lobby entry plan. One storey and attic. Three dormers. Three
horizontal sliding sashes. Two similar windows on either side of a gabled
porcn. This part of the village was settled probably in the C18 and away
from the village nucleus. It may be associated with the development of the
Cambridge-Royston road, which was turnpiked in 1793.
