Mile stone dated 1731. Limestone with cast iron inset plaque inscribed
'LONDON 39 BARKWAY 4 CAMBRIDGE 12', and direction hand with black painted
inscription 'CAMBRIDGE' above and date in Roman numerals below. The
milestone is No.12, and one of sixteen milestones on the old road from
Cambridge to London, set up by William Warren in 1727-32 under the bequest of
Dr.William Mowse, Master of Trinity Hall, Cambridge 1552-3 for the upkeep of
roads in and about Cambridge.
