Manor house, C16, C17, and much remodelled and altered in late
C19 in vernacular revival style probably for the Carter-Jonas
family. The timber frame has almost completely been obscured by
late C19 rough-cast and red brick. Steeply pitched tiled roofs
with three late C19 tall, red brick side stacks with grouped
octagonal shafts and projecting capping. The original hall and
crosswing plan is preserved within the c1890 remodelling. Two
storeys. The first floor of the crosswing retains the original
jetty to the side walls. The window and door openings are,
however, all late C19 and include four hung sashes with small
panes to the crosswing and cross frame casements to the hall
range. Panelled door possibly leading to site of original
cross-passage. Interior: Has also been remodelled but the
roofs are original. That of the crosswing is C16 and of three
bays and clasped side purlin construction with paired wind
bracing between the principal rafters and purlin. The roof over
the centre or hall range is of staggered butt purlin
construction and probably C17.
