Garden wall, gatepiers and gates. Early C18. Wall and piers are of C18 gault
and red brick, mainly Flemish bond on the front but English in the wall to the
yard. Red brick gate piers on gault brick base. Fine mortar joints to the
piers and moulded stone cornice, now painted black and surmounted by stone
urns with masks, swag enrichments and flame bursts from gadroon capping.
Original wrought iron gate with side standards. Overthrow made up of two
bifurcated scrolls meeting at a trident and decorated with nibs. Square
section stiles, verticals and top and lockrail, the latter having a panel of S
scrolls. The bottom rail carries a dograil of arrowheads. The flanking wall
is of gault brick with a low stone gable coping. At the ends are piers, also
of gault brick but with red brick quoins and similar coping. The side wall
returning to the house is of alternating red and gault brick courses, English
bond.
