Gilwell Park on Ordnance Survey map. At one time known as Gilwell House. Altered
central block of C16 or early C17. Late C18 or early C19 wings. Timber frame faced
with large whitewashed flush set slates on studding. Welsh slated roof. 2 storeys,
casement windows with glazing bars, those to 1st floor pointed arched. Canted bay
to centre of 1st floor. Cornish type chimney stacks with pointed tops to narrow
slates set vertically. Cornice. Central ground floor extension. William Alfred Gibbs,
poet, lived here in the later C19.
