1/38 Barn 10 metres south-
east of Ashes Farmhouse

Barn. Circa 1700. Timber framed, mainly weatherboarded, walls partly clad with
corrugated iron, roofed with corrugated asbestos. 5 bays aligned NE-SW, with
2-bay midstrey to SE. Early C19 ancillary building of red brick in Flemish
bond, roofed with red clay pantiles, attached in S angle. C20 large farm
building abutting on midstrey to SE, enclosing great doors. SW gable end,
facing road, clad with corrugated iron. Remainder weatherboarded, with much
tarred original hardwood boarding on the lower half, and softwood boarding on
the upper half replacing wattle and daub infill. Main roof and midstrey roof
half-hipped. Jointed and pegged hardwood main frame. Arched braces to
tiebeams. Primary straight bracing in walls. Clasped purlin roof. Original
great doors to midstrey.
