7/7 The Old School House

GV II

Elementary school, now a house. 1846. Pebble rubble with dressings of gault
brick and limestone, roofed with decorative 5-sided slates. Main range facing
E, with entrance block projecting forwards, forming an irregular T-plan.
Original internal stack at rear, opposite entrance block, and C20 stack to right
of it. C20 rear wing of yellow brick, roofed with plain slates. One storey. 2
C20 casements in original apertures. C20 double doors with 2-centred head in
original moulded stone surround, shafted jambs with capitals and bases in brick
dressings. In each return of entrance block, one original transomed light with
2-centred head. Brick quoins. Low-pitched roof. 2 octagonal brick shafts.
The C20 rear extension is executed sympathetically with the main building. The
front windows are not, but the original apertures are undisturbed. Included for
group value.
