Boundary Cross in C20 cemetery. C14. Pink-grey sandstone. Six foot cross with
square chamfered edged column surmounted by weathered florial cross head, all on
C20 sandstone base. Bronze plaque fixed to base is inscribed THIS CROSS
FORMERLY STOOD ON KNIPE MOOR AND IS SUPPOSED TO HAVE BEEN A BOUNDARY MARK FOR
THE MANOR BELONGING TO SHAP ABBEY. IT WAS REMOVED TO THE OLD SCHOOL FOR A GATE
POST WHERE IT SUFFERED MUTILATION. FINALLY IT WAS RE-ERECTED HERE WHEN THIS
BURIAL GROUND WAS CONSECRATED SEPTEMBER 13, 1907. See RCHM Westmorland, 1936,
