KIMBLESWORTH STANK LANE
NZ 24 NE
(West end)
2/26 Kimblesworth Grange
farmhouse, with
wall and outhouse
attached
GV II

Farmhouse, attached wall and outhouse. Early C19, probably incorporating mid
C18 house. Coursed squared sandstone with quoins and ashlar dressings.
Welsh slate roof with yellow brick, rendered and ashlar chimneys; stone gable
coping on porch; rear wing and outbuilding roofs of pantiles. Irregular plan.
Main range 2 storeys, 6 bays, the right 2 slightly lower. Half-glazed door
under recessed diamond-shaped panel in second-bay porch, with gabled coping
on curved kneelers. C20 3-light window inserted to left of porch. Other
windows 16-pane sashes with glazing bars except for 12-pane in right end bay,
the lower in blocked doorway. 11 windows have flat stone lintels and projecting
stone sills, those on first floor in 2 left bays wider and lower. Ridge
chimneys, banded yellow brick at left end, ashlar-corniced and rendered to
right of door, and ashlar with cornices at right end of main roof and of lower
right roof.
Stepped wall set back at right links to outhouse, probably former earth-closet,
with pent roof.
2-storey rear wing has varied windows; later passage, which is not of interest,
links rear wing to outhouse.
One-storey outbuilding at right-angles to rear wing gable is too much altered
to be of interest.
