SY 97 NE WORTH MATRAVERS -

4/94 Quarr Farm House

- II

Detached farmhouse. C17 origin, extended to west in C18. C17 section appears
to have extended further east. Rubble stone walls, stone slate roofs, brick
stacks. 2 storeys. In earlier section, original doorway blocked and C20
metal window inserted. On first floor, a 5-light stone mullioned window -
the centre light blocked. West of this a similar 2-light window. C18 section
to west, taller, has gabled porch with slate roof and canted stone lintol.
Ground and first floors each have 2 casement windows with glazing bars, those
on ground floor with projecting stone lintols. At east end of the C17 section
2 projecting piers, possibly gatepiers to a former courtyard. Main ground floor
room in C18 section has a good classical styled stone fireplace surround,
dated 1651, moved from the C17 section. Other ground floor room has large
open fireplace with timber lintol and bread oven. RCHM Monument 24.(Dorset Vol II).
