1/1 Bere Chapel Farmhouse
II*

Detached Farmhouse, C16, with earlier evidence (piscina), and later
alterations. Dressed stone walls on a rubble-stone base, Slate roof.
3 stacks, two of stone, one backs onto cross-passage and has a
moulded cornice and stone flashing; one at former right hard gable.
2 storeys. 6 windows, 3 stone mullions with separate labels over.
Wooden casements with glazing-bars and wooden cills. Right hand
'bay' has a French window with glazing-bars, and a 3-light window
over. Interior: Plan - lower room (left) with stone spiral stair
in corner; cross-passage; hall; inner ram. 3 stone fireplaces in
ground floor rooms, with Straight chamfered jambs and depressed-arch
heads. Ample stone spiral stair to room over, with stone piscina
in gable wall (internal), pointed arch with slight chamfer and drain.
Medieval. Roof: 4-joint- cruck trusses, slip-tenoned. Collar beam
halved into side of principal and with decorative joint. Flagstone
floors.
