Hall house, now large house, in landscaped grounds with pond. Early C16
extended C17 and C19. Altered, extended and restored early C20. Timber frame
with brick infill; hipped and half-hipped old tile roofs. L-plan of 2x1 framed
bays originally, 2-framed bay extension on north, large extension on east with
old timbers re-used. Other smaller C20 extensions. Plan now very irregular.
Mostly 2 storeys, some one storey. 6 chimneys, 4 with clay pots. Open eaves.
C20 leaded casements with diamond mullions. Entrance (south) front: irregular.
Left hand part with large, raked, projecting chimney in centre and one 2-light
window on first floor to right of chimney. Centre part set back from left hand
part, with double-height 5-light window with large moulded transom and small
hipped roof over; lower hip to right over small entrance porch with pair of C20
doors, three quarters glazed. Right hand part has end gable of C19 extension
with re-used timbers exposed. One 2-light window on first floor, similar window
on ground floor, but taller. Garden (west) front: very irregular. Oldest part
on right, with wide gable with half hip to right of centre; two, 2-light
windows on first floor; one 3-light window on ground floor with a pair of
leaded garden doors on left. Right hand part, one 4-light window on first
floor, a square hipped roof bay on ground floor with an 8-light window. Left
hand part has projecting gable with half hipped roof. 3-light window on first
floor and large square C20 extension on ground floor with hipped roof and
continuous windows on 2 sides; 10-light on front and 5-light on side. Small
C20 extension set back on left of this with one 4-light window on first floor
and one 3-light window on ground floor, and a half glazed garden door on right
of window. Interior: timber frame exposed, much restored. 2 large fireplaces,
one inserted in former hall.
