8/15 Goosenest Farmhouse

II*

Aisled hall house, now house. Early C14, altered and extended mid C20. Part
timber frame with brick infill, part brick. Old tile and tile gabled roof.
Rectangular plan of 2 framed bays with aisles on north and south. C20 extension
and conservatory on west. One storey and one and a half storey. Chimney high
on front roof slope near centre. C20 casement windows with glazing bars.
Entrance (north) front: 3 gabled dormers, centre smaller, each with 3-light
windows. Low eaves to ground floor on left hand section, timber frame exposed,
with 3-light window and small lean-to. Centre and right hand sections project
forward. Plain C20 entrance door with single-light window each side at
different heights. One 2-light window on right end. One-storey extension, on
right set back with semi-circular conservatory adjoining. Interior: timber
frame exposed, with large jowled arcade posts and square sectioned braces. 2
dragon tie beams on first floor at west end. Collar purlin roof with large,
chamfered central arch braced truss steeply cambered. Moulded crown post above,
braced 4 ways to purlin and collar in roof space. One other plain crown post
remains at west end, with one brace. Roof timbers mostly sooted.
