Stables and gatehouse, the gatehouse is now disused. Late C15, stables altered C19 and restored
1986. Part brick, part timber frame with brick infill. Gatehouse is timber framed with plaster
infill. Old tile gabled roof. Long rectangular plan of 10 framed bays with gatehouse of 2 framed
bays attached at right angles on south west end. Stables now contain 6 stalls; upper level now
disused. North west front: stables on left, 10 bays. 3 gabled hay-loft openings with plank doors
in 3rd, 6th and 9th bays. Brick plinth. Seven, 2-light leaded casement windows with diamond
mullions, all C20. Some close studding in timber frame in end bay on right. Interior: old
boarded floor at loft level with wide planks. Queen post roof trusses with carpenters marks in
correct sequence. Gatehouse on right over cartway. Timber frame exposed on all 3 sides, 3-light
oriel window on north west with oak traceried and mullioned lights. Timber frame mostly replaced
by brick wall, on west side, of old bricks. Interior: little altered. Timber frame exposed
throughout on first floor, with queen post roof. The priest to the former chapel may have lived
here.
