Woodley Tunnel, south portal at SJ 9350 9205

South portal to tunnel. 1794-1801. Benjamin Outram and Thomas Brown engineers. Coursed
millstone grit, ashlar band, coping and voussors. Almost round headed arch - slight skew. The
tunnel measures 176 yards in length and the interior has concreting to vault, also to towpath and has
steel rails. South portal to one of three original tunnels on the Peak Forest Canal. The north portal is
listed separately.
