Formerly service wing of Puddington Hall, now 3 flats: c1760 for
Stanley-Massey family with later alterations and addition. Flemish
bond. red brick, 2 sides, with red sandstone dressings. Hipped Welsh
slate roof and 3 ridge brick chimneys. Long rectangular plan
2-storey, 8-bay south-east front. Stone plinth and simple brick
cornice. Recessed 12-pane sashes with heavy glazing bars under
cambered brick heads and with stone sills. Addition at left end has
door at 1st floor approached by flight of steps between stone-coped
walls. This led to former Catholic Chapel. North-west front has
large number of altered openings.
Interior: Orchard Cottage has heavy ceiling beams. Chapel room has
lost its fittings, though sumptuous but hidden ceiling is reported.
With the item 3/19, built as wings of the now demolished Puddington
Hall.
