House. C16 or earlier left range, C18 right range, C19 red brick rear range and
other alterations and extensions. Timber framed and plastered. Red plain tiled
roofs, that to right range hipped. Chimney stack to right of left range. 2
window range of vertically sliding sashes with glazing bars to left range. The
right C18 range faces west, ashlar line plastered, projecting eaves with
brackets, of 3 bays, the central bay bowed. First floor right and left 2 light
casements, central window blocked. Ground floor right and left tall tripartite
casements with glazing bars. Central bowed doorway, top lights to door.
Interior features include, inglenook fireplace, mantel beam over, chamfered
bridging joists, exposed wall studs, 2 square headed service doorways (now
blocked) to living room, restored mullion window to rear wall, halved and
bridled top plate scarf. Stairs by chimney and C18 stairs to front range. 2
C18 corner cupboards, one not in-situ and a C18 cupboard range in a bedroom not
in-situ. Moulded cornice to C18 rooms, C18 cast iron hob grate, the C18 windows
with panels under open inwards, probably to allow access for furniture. The C19
build has a scratch date 1822. Newspapers dated 1782 and 1892 were found during
repairs to the roofs and are still in the owners possession. Shown as
Crabstalks on Chapman and Andre Map 1777.
