Barn approx. 50 metres
3/33 E of Parsonage Farm
GV II
Barn, C17. Timber framed, weatherboarded, roofed with corrugated asbestos.
4 bays aligned NE-SW with midstrey to NW. Jowled wallposts, primary straight
bracing, straight tiebeams with straight braces, queen struts shortened for
reduced pitch of asbestos roof. SW end wall missing in March 1983. This is a
later building than the one illustated in the Walker map of 1609 (Essex Record
office D/DU 25). There the midstrey was in the third bay from the NE; here it
is in the second bay from the NE, and stylistically it is later in the C17.
