1760-70. A large and imposing house.Freestone.Three storeys.Of three bays with three-light angular bay at each side,the central lights featured(in architrave to second storey with pediments to lower storey).Large Roman Doric cornice hood porch with dentilled pediment; segmental-headed door and pilastered side-lights;steps.Venetian window to second storey of central bay,semi-circular three-light window above,stone corbelled cornice;parapet with inset balustrades;inset pediments to central bay.Inside, cellars with brick barrel vaulting and old mullioned window with diamond quarrels and glass,now below street level.Probably a remnant of an earlier house.Powder closets and doors inside.C19 elaborate plaster ceiling.Nos 43 to 61 (odd), and the Old Grammar School and the pavement at the front of the Old Grammar School form a group of the greatest importance.
