School, former Schoolmaster's
House and retaining wall

GV II

School and former Schoolmaster's house, now all the school. Dated 1861. Coursed
squared rock-faced limestone with sandstone dressings. Plain and fishscale tiled
roofs and stone coped gables. Two stone ridge stacks. Irregular V-plan, the
single storey school in the west wing with gabled cross wing, the former school-
master's house in the north wing, one and a half storeys. Gabled porch at the
angle, surmounted by a wooden bell and clock turret with steep pyramid roof.
South elevation of five bays. Central projecting gabled bay with a three trefoiled
light, stepped window with hoodmoulds carried down the sides to form a stringcourse.
Two bays either side divided by buttresses with two set-offs. Each bay with a two
trefoiled-light window with hoodmould carried down to form a stringcourse. Former
schoolmaster's house to the north with lower roof. East elevation with a steeply
gabled porch, flanked on each side by a casement window and a further similar
window to the right, all with hoodmoulds, linked by a stringcourse. Two casement
windows above in half dormers. Stone retaining wall surmounted by railings and
with steps at the angle up to the porch.
