Shottlegate Farmhouse
II
Farmhouse. Dated 1855. Ashlar gritstone with flush quoins, broad band below a
coved eaves, massive side wall and intermediate ashlar ridge stacks and a hipped
slated roof. Main range to front, with two parallel ranges to rear. Main range,
south elevation: two storeys, three bays, with advanced gabled bay to centre
forming entrance porch to doorway. The gable has coped gables and moulded kneelers,
and is supported by fluted octagonal columns with an entablature and cornice
above which is a mullioned and transomed first floor window of 3-lights. Above the
window, a smaller opening to the gable apex, the lintel of which bears the date
1855. Central doorway enclosed by porch, with shallow arched head, chamfered surround
and six-panelled door, the upper four panels of which are glazed. Flanking the
doorway at ground floor level are canted bays with shallow parapets and chamfered
mullion and transom windows, all with glazing bar casements. Above the bays are
3-light mullion and transom openings. Four bay, two storey parallel ranges to
rear, with 2-light chamfer mullioned windows throughout.
