II
Anglican Church. 1840 by H I Stevens, restored after fire damage by Naylor and
Sale. Coursed squared gritstone with ashlar dressings, rising from a shallow plinth,
with coped gables and wheel cross finials, and a graded Westmorland slate roof.
Nave with gabled bellcote and south porch, chancel and vestry. Gabled bellcote to
south west end, with angle buttresses and trefoil headed doorway with deeply moulded
surround with pointed arched head and hoodmould. Tall gabled porch with curved
triangular recess incorporating a clockface. Angle buttresses to corners. Pointed
arched doorway with moulded shafts and deeply undercut surround, beneath hoodmould.
Planked and studded door with ornamental hinges. 2-light pointed arched sidewall
windows with hoodmoulds and block stops. Shallow buttresses delineate bays of nave,
with cills of three single light pointed lancets linked by moulded stringcourse.
Chancel of three bays, with pointed sidewall lancets, with hoodmoulds and decorative
corbel table supporting a moulded eaves cornice. Cills linked by continuous string-
course. Clasping buttresses to gable end, with linking stringcourse stepping up
beneath tripartite pointed arched east window with moulded mullions and surround.
gabled vestry to chancel north wall with coupled lancets, beneath hoodmould with
block stops. Contemporary interior furnishings.
