Farmhouse. Early to mid C17, possibly with earlier origins, and C19 addition.
Slatestone rubble walls. Slate roof gabled to right end and hipped to left.
Projecting rubble front lateral stack, brick stack at left-hand end and brick
axial stack to rear wing.
Plan: 2-room-and-through-passage plan with possibly integral wing behind right-
hand room. Lower room to left may originally have been unheated and functioned as a service room. The larger hall to the right is heated by a fireplace on its
front wall. The wing behind this room was probably the kitchen and has a newel
stair on the outside wall near where it joins the hall. A 2-storey leanto was
built behind the left-hand end of the house in the late C19 or early C20.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Asymmetrical 3-window front of late C20 PVC casements on
1st floor and below to left. Narrow small-paned light at centre on ground floor
and C20 3-light casement to its right, beyond lateral stack. C20 part-glazed door to left of centre. Wing behind right-hand end has shallow projection for newel stairs on outside wall. Tall 2 storey outshut along rear of house.
Interior: hall has chamfered cross beams, one of which has bar stops. Towards
the lower end of the hall the ceiling drops in level and above this drop is a lst
floor partition - feature suggestive of an internal jetty but this could not
verified without access to the roof space. At the higher end of the hall is a
section of C17 panelling with moulded panels and decorative carved frieze. Some
roof trusses have slightly curved feet suggesting they are C17 if not earlier, but evidence of smoke blackening was not available as there is no access to the loft.
