Cottage in row, on street corner. C17 and C19. Rendered, probably on cob tarred plinth, thatched roof. In two sections, lower part adjoins Wychwood (qv) and higher section returns corner to adjoin Rose Cottage (qv). Lower section in two storeys; left is two-light small pane casement in eyebrow over similar at ground floor. Between window and door a projecting buttress in rubble, and in re- entrant angle to right a slated lean-to porch with peaked-head on posts at front and C20 glazed door, back probably to cross-passage. Higher section has hipped end to road, over a four-pane sash at ground floor, and with stepped square stack at the outer corner. The return front is in two storeys with two windows: at ground floor is a blocked opening with a drip-stone over, then pent-roof enclosed porch over plank door, and two-light glazing-bar casement beneath a 'floating' drip course. First floor has two small two-light glazing bar casements to slight eye brows. Brick stack to right gable.
Interior not accessible.
The stack position is unusual.
The name derives from the fact that the cottage is built directly on rock, exposed above street level.
