Description

SS 72 SW MARIANSLEIGH

5/91 Townliving Farmhouse
-

GV II

Farmhouse. Probably late C17 or earlier in origin, much rebuilt after a fire in the
1930s (information from owner). Whitewashed rendered cob on stone rubble footings;
slate roof, gabled at ends; end stacks with brick shafts.
Plan: Interior not inspected at time of survey (1987) but plan appears to be single
depth, 3 rooms wide with heated rooms to left and right; the front door, to right of
centre, opening into a passage that runs parallel with the front wall, a straight
stair rising opposite the front door and service rooms to the rear in the centre of
the house. The house was badly damaged by fire in the 1930s but this may have
affected the first floor only as exposed carpentry is said to survive on the ground
floor.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Asymmetrical 4 window front with a gabled porch to right of
centre with porch seats and a plank front door. Regular fenestration of probably
early C20 1-, 2- and 3-light small pane timber casements.
Interior: Not inspected at time of survey (1987) said to have exposed crossbeams
(information from owner).
Externally attractive and adjacent to the church.
