Farmhouse. Late C17, possibly C16 core, remodelled in early C19. Plastered cob on
rubble footings; rubble stacks with plastered brick chimney shaft; thatched roof.
3-room-and-cross-passage plan house facing east, Passage now contains C19 stair and
2 rooms to right are separated by axial stack. Room to left has disused stack
projecting from end wall. Rear service block to rear of left room was demolished in
1952. 2 storeys. Regular 4-window front late C19 and replacement C20 pine
casements, all with glazing bars. All are 3-light casements except the 2-light
example over the front door left of centre. Door is C20. Roof is hipped each end.
Interior is largely result of superficial C19 refurbishment but rooms either side of
entrance have late C17 square-sectioned crossbeams exposed and room to right of
entrance has an enormous volcanic ashlar fireplace with a chamfered oak lintel.
First floor includes some late C17 doors hung on H hinges with trefoil finials.
Intact late C17 roof of 5 bays carried on tie beam trusses with pegged lap-jointed
collars.
