Broomhill Farmhouse

Farmhouse. C18, remodelled in mid-C19. Plastered cob on rubble footings; stone
rubble or cob stacks topped with C19 and C20 brick; thatch roof.
L-shaped building with 3-room plan and each wing having a cross passage between
rooms to C19 turret in angle of wings. Main front faces south with end stacks,
that to left (west) projecting. Rear block at right angles with end stack.
Secondary outshot to rear of main range. 2 storeys. Symmetrical 3-window south
front of mid C19 sashes. Central 6-panel door with overlight, panelled reveals and
C20 monopitch slate hood on raking struts. It is flanked by 16-pane sashes with
12-pane sashes above and central first floor 9-pane sash. Roof hipped each end
irregular west front to farmyard includes a double 8-pane sash at first floor
level. Rear chimney shaft of late C18-early C19 brick including some burnt
headers.
Interiors: left front roan and rear room both have exposed plain carpentry detail,
the former including a large rubble fireplace with plain oak lintel. Roof not
inspected.
