Tenement farmhouse. Probably mid to late C17, extended probably in late C18 and
C19, with C20 alterations. Rendered stone rubble and cob. Corrugated asbestos roof
to main range, slate roof at right end, with gable ends. Rendered axial stack.
Plan: apparently originally a small 2 room plan farmhouse, with larger hall/kitchen
to left heated by axial, formerly gable end stack at left end, with direct front
entry and opposing rear stair turret close to the stack end, and a small unheated
room at right end. Former outbuildings at each end, probably a stable to left added
in C18 and C19 ciderhouse to right, converted to form part of dwelling in C20.
Exterior: 2 storeys. 4-window range. C20 fenestration, 2- and 3-light casements, 3
panes per light. Deep projecting porch with lean-to slate roof and integral wall
benches. 4 panelled inner door, the upper 2 panels glazed.
Interior: hall/kitchen has chamfered cross ceiling beam and bressumers with hollow
step stops, the upper end bressumer replaced in C20. Chamfered lintel to fireplace
with 2 bread ovens, the earlier oven unusually is stone-lined. C17 straight headed
doorways with chamfered surround to foot of winder staircase. Chamber over hall has
chamfered fireplace lintel. Roof entirely replaced in C20, but some C17 rafters and
battens survive over the unheated room end.
