Cottage. Mid C17 with minor probably C19 and C20 alterations and additions.
Rendered, mainly over cob. Right-hand end wall rebuilt in C20 blockwork. Thatched
roof, hipped to left and half-hipped to right. Rendered C20 conservatory to front
with glazed lean-to roof. Approximately central axial stone stack with string
course, and brick end stack to left.
Plan and development: C17 two-room baffle-entry plan, with larger (principal) room to
right and smaller room to left, divided by axial stack. Left-hand room divided
(probably in C19), to form small kitchen to left with integral end stack. Continuous
late C20 lean-to porch/conservatory to front. Two storeys with one-storey porch.
Exterior: Asymmetrical 3-window front; late C19 or early C20 small-paned wooden
casements. Left-hand ground-floor window replaced in C20 and small C20 two-light
wooden casement (probably inserted) between first-floor windows. Roughly central
doorway between first and second windows from left, with C20 boarded door. C20
conservatory has one-and 2-light wooden casements and 2-leaf boarded door.
Interior: Right-hand ground-floor room has rough ceiling joists spanning front to
back, and C17 stone open fireplace, which has chamfered wooden lintel with runout
stops. Front windows have jambs continuing to floor level. Left-hand room divided,
probably in the C19. Right-hand part has C17 stone open fireplace with adzed
(probably to take later plaster) wooden lintel which is chamfered with runout stops.
Left-hand part (present kitchen) has probably C19 fireplace with bread oven. First-
floor rooms and roofspace not inspected.
