House primarily of early C19 late Georgian/Regency character but with C17 or
early C18 core; 2 storeys + attic in roof. 3-window house with late Georgian
1-window easterly extension under same roof. Smooth rendered walls with rusti-
cated stone quoins to original house. Flat-roofed projecting Tuscan portico
with two columns at front and pilasters at rear. 2-storey semi-circular bays
in southern part of west gable and single storey in south front of east
extension. Parapet-gabled graded grey stone slate roof with modillioned eaves
cornice. Simple rendered chimneys. subwindows and doors recessed. Eared
moulded plaster surrounds to window openings. 20-pane double French windows
(probably renewals) to main ground floor rooms. 12-pane double-hung sashes
to first floor (front). Replacement front door. West elevation: French window
to parlour; 24-pane double-hung sash to main staircase with narrow margin panes
and horns to bottom rail of upper sash; 12-pane double-hung sash to bedroom;
blocked quatrefoil window to attic in gable. East elevation: Georgian double-
hung sash and fixed light windows. 5-pane quatrefoil window to attic in gable;
replacement door. Rear elevation altered. INTERIOR OF HALL: All ground floor
doors have 6 plain panels; panelled casings and good moulded architraves with
carved rosettes in top corners; lightly moulded plaster ceiling to SW room,
damaged C18 panelled walls to hall; egg and dart cornices; moulded plastered
beams to stair well on decorative consoles with Lion's head bases. C19 replace-
ment broad open well stair with arched balustrade to first floor. Panelling
to dado level on staircase and landing. 6-panel doors to 1st floor bedrooms;
2 modern bathrooms. Staircase to 2nd floor with good turned balusters (1 per
step). Square-section chamfered unsawn oak purlins in attic bedrooms.
INTERIOR OF 7 SUTTON HALL DRIVE: 6 panel doors to parlour and 1st floor rooms.
4-board ledged and battened doors to 2nd floor rooms. Replacement staircase
(C19?) with simple handrail (no balusters).
