Pevsner's "...the former MARKET HOUSE with seven brick arcades, originally open ….." (South Devon; 1952, p.288) . The owner of the garage very kindly let me see a photograph from 1910 showing the Market House as it was then, with very proud people outside the arcades. Older residents of the town told me of their affection for the venue. To the rear of the garage is evidence this was once the town gaol or lock up. I have attached a photograph taken 29 September 2022 of the pump in the adjoining Exe Street,
