Pair of houses, No 18 now house and shop. Mid C18 with late C19 shop front
to No 18, C20 rendering and unsympathetic alterations to No 20. Brick,
colour-washed to No 18, rendered front to No 20; rendered stacks. Pantile
roof to No 18, concrete tiles to No 20. Each house has double-depth, 2-room
central lobby-entry plan; 2 storeys with attic, 3 bays. Plinth. No 18:
step to C19 panelled door and plain overlight in architrave beneath rubbed-
brick flat arch. Single-light plate-glass shop window to right in
pilastered surround with frieze, cornice and hood. C19 plate-glass sash to
left in original flush wooden architrave beneath rubbed-brick flat arch.
First floor: similar sashes and central blind window panel beneath shallower
flat arches. No 20: step to C20 glazed door flanked by inserted C20
windows; two C20 first-floor windows in original openings. Stone-coped
gables with shaped kneelers. Large single axial stacks to each house.
Interior. No 18 has original dogleg staircase, spine beams and series of
fitted cupboards: corner cupboard to ground-floor rear right with fielded-
panel doors in keyed architrave; alcove to first floor front right with
round-headed Gothick-glazed door above pair of panelled doors; round-headed
alcove to first floor rear right with 2-fold fielded-panel doors in keyed
architrave; collared rafter roof with clasped purlins. No 20 not
investigated.
