Farmhouse. C17 or earlier. Timber frame on tarred brick plinth,
roughcast, painted brick casing to parts of ground floor, steep old red
tile roofs. A 2-storeys asymmetrical H-plan house, set back from road,
facing S into yard, with 2-storeys and attics W parlour crosswing, long
E service crosswing with lean-to and single-storey gabled extensions on
E. Gabled porch in angle with E wing. Large internal chimney probably
built as an insertion in a former cross-passage at E end of hall range,
2 diagonally set square shafts. Similar shafts to projecting chimney on
W wall of W crosswing. Rectangular projecting chimney on E side of E
crosswing enclosed in gabled extension. S front has a flush 3-light
casement window on each floor of hall range and each crosswing.
Dripboards across W wing gable at 1st floor and eaves level. Rear (N)
elevation has 2-light casement windows, small window to stair in NE
corner of parlour crosswing, and fine Jacobean 2-storeys canted bay
window to recessed hall range, with its own gabled roof, ovolo transomed
mullioned leaded lights, and iron opening lights. Rear door to N end of
cross-passage. Hall floor carried on axial beam.
