House. Early C17, probably a crosswing to a house probably extending to
N, N wing 1952, E extension 1981. Timber frame on low black plinth,
roughcast exterior with steep thatched roofs and decorative ridges.
Extensions in matching form and finishes. C17 part of 2-storeys and 2
structural bays, facing S, set back from road to W. Front has 2 3-light
flush casement windows to 1st floor, C20 gabled enclosed porch to LH and
casement window to RH. Large projecting E gable chimney now enclosed in
matching small 2-storeys extension to E. W gable to road has scalloped
bargeboard, a canted casement bay window with hipped red tile roof,
2-light casement window over, a single light small stair window, and
lower 1 1/2-storeys N rear wing with 2-light casement window and eyebrow
dormer over. Interior has exposed timber framing with close-studding to
1st floor, stepped-jowl posts, convex curved tension braces to corners,
straight braces to tie-beams, clasped-purlin roof with straight
wind-braces, tie-beam and collar trusses with straight inclined queen-
struts, heavy cross-beam to floor and axial chamfered beams with hollow
stops. Narrow C17 brick on chimney in English-bond with tumbled offsets.
