Stable block to Tatmore Place (q.v.), now a house. 1908 by John Belcher
for Sir Joseph Child Priestley. Uncoursed knapped flint with red brick
bands and dressings. Steep pitched roofs of gratuated slates half-hipped
on wings. Some painted stone mullioned windows. Lead covered central
square clock turret with swept roof, ball finial and wrought iron vane.
A U-shaped building with open side to W. Tall single-storey rectangular
main range and 2 2-storeys wings projecting to W. N wing designed as
stable cottage facing S into court with 3-lights window over round
headed arched opening now with inserted 6-panels door. W gable end has a
4-lights mullioned window to each floor. N side has tall round-arched
brick opening with key-block, and large projecting chimney with 2
2-lights small windows built into it. South wing has an upper floor door
to its W gable with beam-sockets of platform of former external stair.
Hipped roofed canopy over on heavy brackets. Plank door with glazed
light in upper part. Roof of S side of wing extends down as outshut. N
side has large double doors to courtyard for carriages.
