House. C17 in 2 phases (middle part older), W extension mid C19, rear
extensions late 1960s. Timber frame on red brick sill, red brick panel
infill and steep old red tile roofs. W extension red brick with timber
box eaves. Flat roofed rear extensions of white weatherboarding over red
brick ground floors. A 2-storeys, 3-bays house facing S with 2-storeys
single-cell C19 extension to W. Door into W end of wider middle bay of
original house with C18 corner chimney inserted in SW corner of house.
Front wall internal C18 chimney about 2M from E end. S front has
battened door under gabled timber porch with 2-lights flush casement
window over with small panes. Single-light casement flanks door. A
similar 2-light casement to each floor of W extension, the ground floor
with segmental arch. Frame exposed on both floors on S and E sides of
old house. E gable has 2 2-lights casements to 1st floor and one on
ground floor. Jowled posts, mid-height rail, central post to gable,
clasped-purlin roof on collar at gable. On a secluded site in the wood
associated with preaching by John Bunyan. Interior has exposed timbers,
axial beams, corner fireplace to SE corner, moulded and chamfered lintel
and 2 recesses to front-wall fireplace of E room (parlour), 2 posts
side-by-side in rear wall where this E bay was added. (RCHM Typescript).
