House. Probably late C18, extended greatly in mid C19. A large
irregular stucco Jacobethan house of 2 storeys and attics with
steep tiled roofs with quatrefoil pierced bargeboards, facing E.
Tall narrow centre with sash windows, gabled to front and gable
carried out on long brackets over polygonal bay at rear.
Lefthand part projects and has 2 wide and 1 narrow bay defined by
buttresses running up to a recessed jettied upper floor with
bull-nosed joists and sash windows. Round-arched entrance with
double doors and Classical architrave in narrow bay next to
centre. Recessed righthand part has 3 gabled dormers above 4
sash windows in a jettied 1st floor with prominent brackets at
intervals. A decorative plaster band of arabesques and fleur-de-
lis runs round the house and the corners are marked by vertical
lines in the plaster. the oldest part has parallel roofs of low
pitch at the rear of the lefthand part. A large picturesque
Victorian Jacobethan house. Formerly known as Bourne House.
